more than a few people have told me that i must have an excess of serotonin. and it’s true that i see every moment of this life as a privilege, because our existence is so fragile and tenuous. my happiness is thus inextricably intertwined with a persistent melancholy.

i use a camera to make myself attentive to possibilities for joy and sadness, both inside and outside myself, and thus to perhaps join the world as it really is. all photographs – mine included – are fictions; but all my lies are always wishes.
